emarodi gallery
Emarodi, meaning “Emerald” in Swahilli, is a word that doesn’t mean a lot to most people. In 1999, the Gallery opened its doors in a very quiet community, hoping to attract both artists and collectors and cultivate networks and connections that would last for decades. Years later, that vision was proved to be correct and the gallery quickly expanded its operations to Paris and Manchester. However, nothing lasts forever. As fate would have it, in 2014, the founder of the gallery, Gerard Luke, would pass. His son took the reins but to honor the legacy and dream of his father, he retracted the gallery back to his home town, where it all began 15 years earlier.
Today, our gallery offers a dynamic platform where both emerging and established artists can explore, question, and transcend cultural, social, and personal narratives. Through a carefully curated selection of paintings, sculptures, installations, digital media, and experimental forms, we invite our visitors to engage with the pulse of contemporary art. At Emarodi, we believe in the transformative power of art as a vehicle for dialogue and change. Our exhibitions are designed not only to showcase individual creativity but also to spark conversation and challenge perspectives. Each display offers an opportunity for visitors to experience art that resonates with current events, human emotion, and complex identities. By promoting innovative artistic practices, we strive to create a welcoming environment that encourages curiosity, introspection, and an appreciation for diversity.
In addition to our rotating exhibitions, we host artist talks, panel discussions, and workshops that foster deeper connections between artists and the public. These events provide an open forum for exchange and collaboration, allowing our community to participate in the creative process and gain insights into contemporary art’s evolving landscape.
Whether you are a seasoned collector, a casual visitor, or someone discovering contemporary art for the first time, Emarodi offers an inspiring journey through the imaginative possibilities of the present. Our team is passionate about supporting artists who challenge the status quo and expanding the ways we interpret the world. We invite you to join us and explore art that is as diverse, thought-provoking, and ever-changing as the times we live in.
building our collection
For the past four years, Emarodi gallery has launched an effort to collect, display and offer prints from some of the most esteemed contemporary artists.
As a tale of fate, 25 years after the opening of the gallery, we now have the biggest collection of contemporary artists we ever did. As a celebration for the 25 years of life of our gallery, we invite you to admire and consider the artworks presented in the collection.
