Harland Miller
Miller is perhaps best known for his large-scale canvases depicting reimagined Penguin Book covers. These artworks feature sardonic titles that offer humorous commentary on life, including Whitby – The Self Catering Years, Rags to Polyester – My Story, York, So Good They Named It Once, and Incurable Romantic Seeks Dirty Filthy Whore. Through his unique blend of literature and visual art, Miller has established a distinctive voice in contemporary culture
Harland Miller is a writer and artist born in Yorkshire, England, in 1964. He studied at Chelsea School of Art, where he graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 1988.
Miller gained critical acclaim with the publication of his debut novel, Slow Down Arthur, Stick to Thirty, released by Fourth Estate in 2000. In the same year, he also published a novella titled At First I Was Afraid, I Was Petrified through Book Works. This novella explores obsessive-compulsive disorder and is inspired by a collection of hundreds of Polaroids taken by a relative, featuring oven knobs all turned to the “Off” position.
